Hello percr01.

I checked the firmware and came to the following conclusions:

• It uses the 4 same files from a normal R4 as theme, but with the following properties.
  - logo.bmp: 16bit color depth and 72dpi resolution
  - icons.bmp: 16bit color depth and 72dpi resolution
  - bckgrd_1.bmp: 16bit color depth and 72dpi resolution
  - bckgrd_2.bmp: 24bit color depth and 72dpi resolution
  

• In addition, there are 2 extra files:
  - progress_bar.bmp: dimensions 216 x 15 pixels 24bit color depth and 96dpi resolution
  - progress_wnd.bmp: dimensions 224 x 59 pixels 24bit color depth and 72dpi resolution
  - MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THESE WHEN CHANGING THEMES.
  

• The manual states that it should work with the theme01 to theme12 folder under the themes folder. But this manual looks like a copy from the original R4. So it's possible that you're stuck with one theme in the default folder.

• Also possible, a settings option somewhere in the menu, from where you can select the folder to use as theme. Some cards use this way of theme / skin selecting.

• I opened up every file and I can't find a text color reference anywhere. Like you say, the theme.ini isn't used.

This firmware is again totally different then what I've seen before. I can't do much more for you then this, as testing isn't possible for me. Yet I hope I could help you a bit.

Well like I said. There's nothing to find with color settings.
Is the white and black text mixed, or can you set it somewhere?

Trying other firmware can be a risk. It could brick your adapter.
I'll see if I can find more information on the internet.

Absolutely nothing to find.
I did came across a nice site with a lot of R4 info. On it is your adapter too.

Heya.
I'm pretty new to the whole scene but i brought a R4i and it seems maybe i should have come here for advise first

On the front of the card it says,
R4i V1.4
Revolution for DS
(NDSi XL/NDSi/NDSL/NDS)
WWW.R4I-GOLD.COM

On the box it says pretty much the same thing, the only differance is this line is added,
R4I-GOLD Upgrade

So i guess this is another clone to add to the list yes?

Remarks: You can use R4DS themes bmp files, just need to rename
icons.bmp - BottomInit.bmp
logo.bmp - TScreen.bmp
----Now the card only uses three bmp's so here its really a personal choice which picture you want to use.
bckgrd_1.bmp or
bckgrd_2.bmp - BottomScreen.bmp (This screen you'll see in the config menu and game selection screen)
